What is Base?
On February 23, 2023, Coinbase, the centralized exchange (CEX), unveiled the testnet of their Ethereum Layer 2 chain named Base to the public. Base, built on the OP Stack by Optimism, operates as an Optimistic rollup within Optimism’s Superchain, aiming to onboard Coinbase’s vast user base of 100 million into the decentralized world.
Following an extensive period of public testing, Base commenced its gradual mainnet rollout, initially opening its doors to developers in early July. During this process, it accumulated an impressive total value locked (TVL) of over $147 million. After this phase, Base successfully completed its mainnet rollout and became accessible to the public on August 9, 2023 and now is available for you on Tower.bet!
